Motorola W175G Review

in Reviews

This candy bar style Motorola phone looks better than most of its Tracfone cousins while offering to serve all the purposes that a Tracfone is supposed to. Some of its impressive features include:

  • It is sleek and glossy in appearance featuring a large screen and buttons that go with the look of the phone and yet do their job very well.
  • It has a textured back which gives it a better grip than most other smooth faced phones
  • The call quality is excellent and as good as a landline phone without the regular interferences and disturbances in the form of echo, static and noise.
  • The signal strength is much better than many of the other phones of the same category.
  • The battery life gets thumbs up for lasting 9 days with light usage and so does the standby time of 18 days.
  • The menu option although a little detailed is simple enough to master in a few days time.
  • The ringer is loud enough to be heard clearly and can be adjusted accordingly to suit your requirements.
  • The vibrator motor is pretty decent too.
  • The voice quality is very good too, on both sides, even while using the speakerphone. This is possibly because of the CrystalTalk enhancement software in these phones.
  • It shows you the remaining units in your account and alerts you on when to refill your account without having to send a text message or make a call. This is useful for first-time users.

Although you may be impressed with the above features the phone lacks certain things:

  • The keypad is flat and the keys may be too small to suit certain users.
  • The glossy screen easily attracts fingerprints and smudges that are not very easy to get rid of.
  • There is no volume rocker on the side of the phone so volume changing becomes a bit of a long tedious process
  • Text entry becomes a bit cumbersome as the model still uses their old iTAP system compared to the much smoother T9.
  • The ringer speaker tends to distort at higher volume levels.

All in all, the phone is a good buy foe first time users as well as users who want to upgrade their phone. If you don’t want a flip phone and want to stick to the safe bar phone, then you could try the Motorola w260g.
